HORSE HANDLER (Position now filled)

The successful candidates should possess:
Two years experience of handling horses with care, dedication and commitment.
Valid and current driving licence, with experience of horse box driving/trailer towing
Care and commitment for the well-being of horses and possesses equine-competency, with appropriate level of skills, experience, attitude and knowledge.
To assist in thorough assessments of all new horses, who are often unhandled, on their arrival, including haltering with head collars to make horses safe for staff, vets, dentists and farriers to handle.
To assist in handling and holding horses and picking up feet for the farrier when conducting routine foot maintenance.
To assist in the routinely worming and vaccinations of all horses.
To assist in loading and unloading horses into horse boxes safely, with due understanding, care and attention to the horses needs, implanting good memories and experiences for the horse.
To assist in the assessment of all individual horses’ nutritional requirements and advise the Yard Manager of their needs.

VETERINARY MANAGER (Position now filled)

Based at Frettenham

Full time Permanent (45 hrs in Summer, 40 in Winter)

Job Purpose

To work with the Sanctuary Manager and lead the Veterinary Team to commit to the health, safety and wellbeing of all animals in the care of Hillside Animal Sanctuary.

To achieve operational efficiencies through the appropriate use of resources, lead work activities, liaise with internal managers and external agencies.

To commit to learning and development of animal nursing tasks.

To promote the values and ethics of Hillside Animal Sanctuary at all times.

Primary Responsibilities

· Arrange/conduct thorough assessments with all new animals on their arrival to Hillside

· The administration of appropriate treatments to all animals under the guidance of external veterinary surgeons

· Routinely monitor the health of all animals, reporting any concerns to the Sanctuary Manager

· Monitor the progress of sick animals and communicate changes to the Sanctuary Manager

· Develop a team working ethos, assist with staff rotas, sickness and holidays, cover shift absences where necessary.

· Train new and existing staff in all veterinary procedures

· Arrange veterinary appointments and transportation to the veterinary surgery for animals requiring treatment. Following treatment, provide treatment care plans to the Sanctuary Manager

· Ensure all veterinary equipment is maintained in a safe condition with faults or damage reported in a timely manner.

· Reduce wastage to minimise running costs by reduction of water, energy, fuel, feeds and medication in an effective efficient manner.

General

· To adhere to health & safety policies and procedures set out by the sanctuary at all times

· To report all accidents, near misses or machinery/property damage as soon as possible

DOG RESCUE CO-ORDINATOR (Position now filled)

Based at Frettenham (NR12 7LT)

To organise dog rescue and rehoming in Norfolk.
This is an office based administration role.  Responsibilities include handling enquiries
about our dogs and ensuring that they are neutered, vaccinated and micro-chipped
before being found suitable loving homes. 
Also dealing with requests for us to take in dogs, sometimes in emergency situations. 

Proficient administration, organisation and record-keeping skills are essential to manage all aspects of this challenging role. 

Excellent communication skills and ability to deal with difficult situations essential.

The successful applicant will also be required to help with other office duties within the
Sanctuary as necessary and may occasionally need to work outside normal office hours.

Full time (40 hours) flexible position to include some weekend work.

                                                                                                                      They include rabbits, guinea pigs, goats, sheep, poultry (chickens and turkeys), aviary birds, waterfowl and ferrets,

OPEN DAY ASSISTANT (Position now filled)
at West Runton

To assist with the Sanctuary’s Gift Shop/Information Centre and all public areas, the vegan cafe and the cleaning of the two holiday chalet lettings; which all promote the values and ethics of the Sanctuary.

Seasonal position from late March until end of October, hours would vary from a minimum of 20 increasing to 28+ during the height of the season.

Flexibility essential and need to be within a reasonable travelling distance of West Runton

Qualifications and Experience
Some experience in these areas would be advantageous and possession of a Basic Food Hygiene Certificate is an advantage
Working within a cafe or food environment is desirable, but training will be given.

We are currently seeking to recruit a Sanctuary Caretaker who will be committed to maintaining the sanctuary premises in a clean and tidy condition.

 The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring all areas around the sanctuary are maintained to a high standard with regards to cleanliness, tidiness, hygiene, replenishment and health and safety. 

Experience/Skills
The role includes light maintenance duties. 
This is a full time position working to a rota pattern, including some weekend work. 
A good eye for detail is essential and the ability to communicate accurately in a polite manner.
Flexibility and the ability to manage a variety of tasks within challenging time-frames are required.

Experience of and responsibility for monthly payroll (including processing starters/leavers, holiday pay and statutory payments), bank/petty cash reconciliation, purchase ledger

Proficient computer literacy skills, with a sound working knowledge of Sage, Excel and Outlook

We are currently seeking to recruit full-time Maintenance Personnel, to ensure all maintenance work within the Sanctuary is carried out efficiently in a timely manner.

The successful candidates should possess:
Genuine interest in animal welfare issues
Valid and current driving licence – essential
Trailer Towing licence (B+E) – desirable
Experience of tractor driving - desirable
Carpentry/woodworking certification – desirable
JCB licence – desirable
Welding certification – desirable
Possesses a 'can-do' practical 'hands-on' approach, with a hard-working attitude, requiring minimum supervision
Enjoys a variety of maintenance jobs and enjoys working outdoors in all weather types

Able to work a rota shift pattern (40 hours a week in the winter season and 45 hours a week in the summer season), including working alternate weekends

RECEPTIONIST/SUPPORT ADMINISTRATOR (Position now filled)

  We are currently seeking to recruit a full-time experienced, friendly Receptionist/Support Administrator who is committed to providing an excellent reception and administrative support service to the Sanctuary.

The successful candidate will possess:

*Excellent telephone skills with a natural ability to greet visitors to the site in a friendly manner whilst positively promoting the work of the Sanctuary.   

*Excellent written skills, combined with a strong command of the English language are essential, as supporters' correspondence requires a sympathetic response
*High level of proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook, with the ability to work to defined administrative procedures, attention to detail and uses own initiative.   *Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with confidence to manage a busy and varied workload, whilst on occasions having to meet demanding deadlines.  

*Ability to multi-task and be flexible in the support of different departmental needs, including stock-ordering.  

*A genuine interest in animal welfare issues and a desire to bring a positive approach to working within an animal sanctuary environment.  

*Formal qualification requirements include Business Administration, Information Technology and English language, although not essential where candidates are able to demonstrate competency.

HR OFFICER (Position now filled)

To provide hands on support to our staff and to ensure HR polices and procedures are in line with current legislation.   The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills and be proficient in the use of word processing; also have a polite telephone manner and excellent command of the English language, good computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook).

Ideally, you will be CPP qualified and have a minimum of two years experience of working within a HR generalist role. Must have a genuine interest in animal welfare and be prepared to assist with other duties as required.   The ability to communicate on a wide range of matters, many of which are of a sensitive and confidential nature. Good personal organisational skills, combined with attention to detail and a confident ability to juggle a variety of tasks are required for this important role. Must be able to use initiative and at times, work under pressure to tight deadlines.  

Approximately 30-40 hours Monday to Friday (five days), must be flexible due to the nature of this important role.

HORSE CHECKER (Position now filled)

Experienced horse person to check 10-12 horses, at summer grazing,
twice a day in the Poringland area.

This will involve 2-3 hours daily, checking to make sure the animals are in good health
and keeping the fields clear of droppings.

To oversee and deal with every aspect of our Adoption Scheme which raises vital funds to feed and care for our rescued animals. Experience in creative writing and photography is vital to this position, also to understand and be able to operate the involved computer system. RELIEF VETERINARY MANAGER (Position now filled)

To oversee and organise all aspects of our veterinary department and to be responsible

for the veterinary needs of all animals in Hillside's care both at Frettenham and West Runton.

The successful candidate must have equine and farm animal veterinary experience, be a good team player and communicator, as well as having the ability to use their own initiative and report any concerns to management in a timely manner. You must also be able to delegate work and identify any training needs. Assist with staff reviews, issues/concerns and any adhoc duties as required including ensuring the cleanliness and presentation of the section is of a high standard.

This role involves working closely with other staff and management, also outside authorities.

WEEKEND STOCKPERSON (Position now filled)

  Duties include: Assisting with the preparation of feeds and feeding the animals, recognising health problems, replenishing and cleaning water containers and tanks, checking/replacing bedding, mucking out the stables, shelters and other enclosures, clearing fields of ragwort/stones and any other duties as necessary.   Experience of working with large animals (sheep, cattle, horses and pigs) is desirable.   Hours 07.30 - 16.00

AREA SANCTUARY MANAGER (Position now filled)

An Area Sanctuary Manager, based at Frettenham, is required to oversee Sanctuary locations mainly across Norfolk...

Main duties –

The main responsibilities of the role are to ensure that the general high standard of several Sanctuary locations across Norfolk is maintained. Weekly/twice weekly visits to assess areas, including identifying any aspect that may need attention (See examples below). Reporting to the Sanctuary Operations Manager and working with location managers, supervisors and staff to ensure fast action is taken to resolve any issues that arise. Return visits to ensure that each task has been actioned and completed.

Examples of overseeing the various sites...

Animal welfare

Ensuring all the animals have the correct and sufficient vitamin/mineral supplements

Ensuring sufficient forage is available

Ensuring Clean fresh water is available

Checking for grooming requirements

Reporting any injuries or health concerns to the veterinary team

Maintenance

Checking fencing (permanent and temporary) is safe and secure

Looking for areas for rejuvenation. Painting or cleaning

Checking gutters are clean

Ensuring gates are sufficiently secured

Checking for water leaks or issues with water supply

Checking for potential hazards for the animals and the staff

Checking for rabbit holes

General tidiness

Ensuring the sanctuary is kept clear of litter, dead branches, string and any other items that make the Sanctuary untidy or are a health hazard to the animals and staff.

Ensuring all working areas and barns and the vet unit are kept clean and tidy at all times.

Fields, paddocks and barns

Ensuring all areas are regularly kept clear of droppings

Ensuring stables, barns and straw pads are sufficiently littered with bedding or straw

Health and Safety

Ensuring any H&S issues are reported to the H&S advisor.

Ensuring any H&S concerns are immediately secured for safety and the H&S advisors recommended works are completed
